Editor's Review:

ChristianMatrimony.com claims to be the “World’s No.1 Christian Matrimony Portal”. It’s a site which primarily aims to help match Christians from around the world, although the majority of its members appear to be based in India. Still, if you’re in the US, UK, Canada or many other locations, you can find single Christians near you, or from further afield.

The site itself is simple to use although it is lacking in a few features, but if your Christianity, values, family and social standing are important elements of your life, and you wish to find someone who suits your standards, Christian Matrimony is a good place to begin the search.

Signing up is a balance of simplicity and slight intrusion. You essentially fill out your basic information, with a few extras such as your caste/ethnicity, social position (middle class, upper-middle or wealthy) and general preferences. Some of this information might seem unfamiliar, or perhaps even unnecessary, to Western users, however such establishments are more familiar in some countries.

Once that’s done, you’ll need to include your phone number. This is to verify your account, but it is also used to help you to communicate with other members. Frankly, we found this somewhat unnecessary, and not everyone will be happy to hand out their phone number. You can alter your personal privacy settings afterwards, but we weren’t so keen on this method of verification.

Once you’ve signed up you can build your profile and get searching. Our US-based search didn’t give us an amazing number of results, although it also wasn’t terrible. If you’re open to international relationships then your options are much greater. You can also perform an in depth search which bypasses your profile preferences, yielding a lot more results.

Members can upload photos, although not all of them have. The profiles are a little rigid but provide a lot of the basic information you might want to know about a person, including their job and education, spoken languages and a personal statement.

Profiles lack a bit of fun though, and we’d like to see a few more spaces for members to express themselves, perhaps even adding some design tools to add a unique flair to each page.

You can see who is online when you log on, and you can communicate with members in a live chat, via email or over the phone. You can also send them an SMS message, assuming they’ve allowed that in their privacy settings.

We do feel that the site would benefit from more communication tools, though, such as forums and chat rooms, to help get things buzzing. When we logged on there were apparently no members online, which was a bit worrying, although this can vary depending on the time of day or night.

The site also offers personal matches, showing you profiles which it thinks you’ll enjoy based on the information you’ve provided.

However, the more unique service offered is Assisted Matrimony, whereby you get help from a member of the team whenever you need it. They work closely with you for an extended period to help match you with members, and arrange dates.

Now we come to price, which – considering a lack of activity and communication tools – is a bit higher than we’d like. Membership packages are somewhat strangely designed as you cannot choose the length of time you take out a contract, rather you simply pick the level of membership and then have to agree to, however many months it comes with. This seems flawed, as you may want to try out the site for a month, rather than having to sign up for 3 months. Still, it’s up to you.

Christian Matrimony shows promise but it doesn’t quite feel as though it’s hitting all the high notes. If you’re in India, or you’re looking to meet someone in India, you might get better results. Otherwise, it feels a bit expensive for the service, which is lacking some of the better features you’ll find elsewhere.
